The Struggles of Naturally Curly Hair

themisunderstoodch

Having naturally curly hair can both be a blessing and curse all at once. On one hand, curly hair has a unique texture and bounce that can make it stand out and look gorgeous. On the other hand, it can be difficult to manage and maintain.

I think we can all agree that naturally curly hair can be a pain and can have a “mind of its own.” Sometimes it'll be the most beautiful thing that you've ever seen and it seems like you’ve barely touched it. In those moments you don’t dare go out in the humid air or put water on it. Even if we have the best intentions, you know it is not a good idea. Its okay I don’t blame you for wanting those perfect ringlets like Shirley Temple, I do too. But to be honest, I think they curled hers!

I’m here to talk about those days where it doesn’t seem to matter how much you care, how much your products cost or how you apply them…your hair just does not turn out! Your naturally curly hair is stringy, frizzy and fuzzy and ‘the mane’ just cannot be contained.

After much experimentation here is what is working for me. Disclaimer: I may change it up. In fact, I more than likely will change it because my hair changes throughout time.

Here's what you don't want your hair to look like!

This is the order and products that have been working for my 2C/3A hair. I do cream, light gel then a heavy gel.

I like to add a light coat of this to my curls after they are dried. That way they don't get weighed down but also has enough hold for more than a few hours.

The pro is that you can try these without having to buy the huge bottles that you may not even like. I had initially tried these.

This is the final product. Like I said sometimes it turns out great and sometimes it doesn't.

I then like to fluff my hair as it can be a little stiff. Depending on how much product you use.

Hope this helps someone out there!
